The Department of Agriculture – Caraga through the Regional Livestock Program conducted a three-day Livestock and Poultry Information – Early Warning System (LPI-EWS) Workshop last May 26-28, 2021 held at La Entrada, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur.

The annual activity is in collaboration with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS), Bureau of Animal Industry-Veterinary Quarantine Services (BAI-VQS), and Local Government Units (LGUs). Participants of the write-shop were the data analyst and writers of the said institutions.

Aim of the said activity is to depict the swine and chicken industry situation in the region in terms of quarterly inventory by type, the volume of production, volume of pork and dressed chicken, commodity flow, and monthly average prices at farm gate and retail levels.

The PSA conducted the quarterly Backyard and Commercial Livestock and Poultry Surveys (BLPS and CLPS) nationwide to generate information on the inventory of stocks, production, extraction,

NMIS monitored the accredited dressing plants and cold storages. Other dressing plants accredited and supervised by LGUs and those unregistered are monitored by the concerned Municipal/City/Provincial Local Government Units. DA-Caraga also monitored the commodity flow through the Veterinary Quarantine Services.

Furthermore, the objective of the workshop is to produce an annual swine and poultry presentation that may be utilized as a direct instrument for policymaking and planning. This is also a response to the livestock and poultry difficulties that are posing a serious danger to animal production and inventory, which is a major factor in the market’s price instability.
